What are Eyelet Curtains?
Eyelet curtains are the ones that have rings into holes made at the top of curtains to mount into the curtain poles. The ring is called a grommet. Hence, eyelet curtains are also called grommet curtains. Usually, grommets are circular but are available in different shapes, such as square and pentagonal. These curtains are made of plastic, steel, or any metal with characteristic color and texture.
Why Were Grommets Added to Curtains?
The primary purpose of grommets is to prevent wear and tear at the circumference of the hole in the fabric of a curtain made to slide a curtain rod through it. Conventionally, before the use of grommets in curtains, the fabric bank of the hole was either sewn or burnt at the edge to seal the threads. But, eventually, over the use, the seal would break. Other curtain headings used extra materials such as straps and hooks.
